Ron, Mike,

My concern, not made clear, was with the sheer numptiness of the bit in quotes.  Welding companies (whatever they might be - I can't say I've ever met one), don't help to build ships, certainly not  riveted ones like Titanic, any more than paint companies help to build ships (they sell paint). And, in any case, Len Goodman's association with welding can have no relevance to Titanic.
