I used the word stern was to identify which generator was operating when we were in port. The Chanda had 2 steam generators on the starboard side of the main engine near the controls. In line one after the other. All the pumps including the sewerage pump were Wiers up and downers. I had never in my apprenticeship had seen such an ancient engine room in my 5 years in the yard. Everything as electric.
