[BITList] more carnival problems?

Colin,

I used the word stern was to identify which generator was operating when we
were in port. The Chanda had 2 steam generators on the starboard side of the
main engine near the controls. In line one after the other. All the pumps
including the sewerage pump were Wiers up and downers. I had never in my
apprenticeship had seen such an ancient engine room in my 5 years in the
yard. Everything as electric.

Malcolm.

Colin,

On the Chanda only the stern generator was only working when we in port.
When at sea they were both working.

Indeed Hugh - we live and learn.

I remember the C's had 2 allen steam recip generators, and, if I remember
rightly, one was for the ship's propulsion but I'm not sure what the other
was for.

The SW pump was a drysdale recip but I don't remember how it
worked.......................could it have been for propulsion also - or
maybe the steering of the boat?

Colin,

One is never too old to learn. The emergency generator "controls" the
ship's propulsion. The "other" generator does sewage, etc.

Hugh.
