Yes, your first paragraph is correct. In the UK all the parties are not
going as far as the Republicans but they all say in one voice that the last
30 years, every one has been living up too much. They have been spending
more that they had earned and never thought about saving an amount of their
wage for their retirement because the state will make up their deficiencies.
Now the Conservatives are beginning to pull the rug out from their feet.
“They don’t like it” the workers in the country, especially the 40 year old
folk do not” what they call scroungers” should be living in houses that they
could not afford to buy. Now they know that they are having to have to work
until they are 70 years old.

it’s slowly becoming clear........there is a shortage of local council
subsidised rental properties in some areas, so the gov’mint gives rent
subsidies to families who need an abode but can’t get the council subsidised
rentals properties with the lower rents and have to pay private landlords
the higher going rate.
the gov’mint wants to reduce the rent subsidy by having families double up
in smaller [and therefore cheaper] rental properties and/or move out of high
cost areas to cheaper areas of the country.
while the plan might make fiscal sense, sounds draconian on paper – but as
the republicans here insist, poor folk are irresponsible for not getting
highly paid jobs, investing wisely and spending with prudence. If the poor
were not so irresponsible they would be able to afford their own 3-story
mansion.
Additionally, the poor should not expect food stamps and other ‘nanny-state’
hand outs. These benefits only make the poor lazy, they simply stay in their
subsidised housing, watch their smart tv’s and guzzle beer a la Mrs.

We lived in our own house and there was no subsidies from the state as far
as I know in those days.
It is the Labour Party that called it a Bedroom Tax because the folk who
live on state benefits and get their rent paid by the government and are
living a house that is far bigger than their really need should be moved
into a smaller house so they need as much rent for the government to pay
out. In this country we have a lot of retired couples living in 3 bedroom
houses, if they moved into a smaller house the larger house could be rented
to a couple who have 3 or 4 children. Personally I can not see any thing
wrong with this policy but as Hugh has said where will the people go because
the country has not got many small houses.

There is nothing wrong with sharing a bedroom, but did you receive a
directive from ‘minister of how-you-will-live’ telling you that bed rooms
are expected to be shared and how kids will sleep?
I was hoping some one would explain about bedroom subsidies which will be
stopped if the occupants have an excess of same.

Colin & Hugh,
What is wrong with sharing a bedroom if you are all the same gender. Me and
my younger brother ( 4 1/2 years) slept in twin beds in the same room from
cot age until I went to sea just before my 21st birthday. My mother slept in
the front bedroom and we slept in the back one, both the rooms were the same
size. The third bedroom was for guests.

Being in the colonies I have not heard of a bed room tax – so I researched
it.
I do not believe what I see – surely it is a joke!
Whose twisted mind came up with anything as bizarre as this? I don’t think
Stalin at his best could not have dreamed of it.
The ‘minister of how-you-will-live’ is telling the folks bed rooms are

Enuf is Enuf here – bring out the pitch forks.

How many bedrooms are you allowed?
The new rules allow one bedroom for each adult or couple. Children under the
age of 16 are expected to share, if they are the same gender, and those
under 10 are expected to share whatever their gender.
Following a legal challenge, the government said severely disabled children
unable to share a room would be exempt - although campaigners say there is
still uncertainty about this.
Disabled tenants will be allowed a bedroom for full-time live-in or
overnight carers. If a full-time carer is a husband, wife or partner, then
they will be expected to share a room. However, they can apply for a
discretionary housing payment from their local authority if the disability
means the partner needs to sleep in another room.
Discretionary support should remain in place for "priority groups" such as
disabled people whose homes have had to be significantly adapted and those
with long-term medical conditions which create difficulties in sharing a
bedroom.
The number of bedrooms in the property will be determined by the landlord's
tenancy agreement, so you cannot claim a bedroom is actually a living room.

I think its getting bad and it is Govt. policy to screw the poor what with
Zero Hour contracts and the Bedroom Tax. It reminds me a little of the Poll
Tax. Riots coming ?
