Hugh,
My immediate thought was to wonder if your GGF had any connection with
Henderson's Circular Saw Line, but a quick Google proved that theory wrong.
Pity, would have been an interesting study. All the same look it up,
Wikipedia has a reference. They even named a town after that Henderson, he
may of course be related to your GGF. Until I just looked it up I always
thought that the Circular Saw Line was an Australian concern as I had a
post card of one of their ships, s.s. "Archer" in Newcastle NSW. I see now
that it was from New Zealand. This ship was later sold to the Australian SN
Co, which company, in turn, British India SN took control of and it became
Australasian United SN Cc. IIRC there same picture was on the Internet.
Interesting name for a shipping Co. AUSN vessels had BI livery colours,
except for the masts which were painted a mission brown colour.
I haven't made it to Sydney in years, at least 15 years, must consider a
trip back
