yo dave

I wondered about your reason mainly in the context of where you resided [which I didn't know].
if you had resided in the land of the free, home of the brave it more than likely would have had major political implications.
the right to bear arms was written when the USA was new and anti arms-bearing red coats. I.e. the local populace were allowed to bear arms and defend themselves against the red coats.
200 years later the situation has changed [I can't remember when I last saw a red coat], but I believe that the US supreme court has affirmed that the most citizens have a right to bear arms NOW - for whatever reason, such as hunting, defending onesself or shooting ones wife [or anyone else who gets in ones way].

1. agree - it is now part of the politicians arsenal to be insincere [and an effing liar to boot], it apparently pays very well.

2. agree - activists/lobbyists here are not shy of twisting facts or simply outright lying (a la palin]. they know it is almost impossible to bring the various parties together to confront the liars.

3 interesting - I wonder how it "just came your way"!

keep up the good work

now that our moderator is reluctant to edit out missives, tell us how to play nicely together, ban us or slap our wrist - lets get some controversy going we can all participate in - its too quiet.

Let's be quite clear, I am unequivocally anti-gun. John Howard, as Australian PM brought in anti-gun laws following the Port Arthur massacre and I fully support that legislation EXCEPT that he didn't go far enough.

The reason I sent it on was to show;

1. The insincerity of politicians (of all persuasions and in all countries)

2. the moronic (to quote yourself and Hugh) attitude of, and how to twist an argument by the gun lobby.

3. Because it came my way and I looked forward to a response. Responses keep this forum going and I enjoy the responses from yourself and Hugh, and others of course. Stirring the pot a little?

Dave

By the way, I checked it on Snopes, I thought it mat have been a bit of propaganda.
