Tom,

Your vivid description of the Chief in the alarm affair brought to mind an 
old "friend" of mine, the highly eccentric Scientific Sid.  It was the 
shorts that triggered it off, and the rest followed.  Life was never dull 
with Sid around, though I didn't ever see him down below at a standby. He 
was never averse to shutting things down.
