Just been watching a fascinating programme about one of the first Cable Ships, the MACKAY-BENNETT on BBC4.  It will be available on iPlayer for UK residents soon.

The ship was chartered to pick up corpses from the TITANIC.  The loss of life appears to have been over 1500 persons.  Last week, in Liverpool we had a Remembrance Service for the sinking of the EMPRESS OF IRELAND, One Hundred Years ago, on Thursday, 29th.May, 1914.  This was the largest disaster in Canadian waters - 1012 persons died.
