Regret I have never heard said ditty, although I did sail on sirdhana and Chakdara.
You are correct about the three Allan steam recip generators,  every bi ship I sailed on had them  - they were excellent and never gave a moments problem.
I don't recall having to bring another genny on line to run up a purifier, in fact I know we didn't.
