Colin,

I do not know other countries. Everybody in our group has been very quiet
this weekend. They must have been to interested in our messages to each
other. I never mentioned health cost because you know that we no not have
any.

Malcolm

It’s quite an interesting exercise, isn’t it – I too had no idea of the
total monthly costs involved.

Some interesting comparisons:-

The biggest difference is house insurance. You pay 265 ukp per year – I pay
2135 ukp, 8 times as much! This includes mandatory flood insurance of 467
ukp. This is not too surprising as the house is 2 feet below sea level and
there is a possibility 5 months of every year of it being totally destroyed
by one or more hurricanes!

Sky TV 42 ukp – my cable TV service 58 ukp

UK Rates and rubbish 108 ukp – 75 ukp [rates only-no garbage].

UK Water 28 ukp – water and trash 10 ukp

Gas, Elect, land phone, broad band and central heating service 136 ukp –
Elect. phone, [no gas], broad band 101 ukp

Now if I lived half way up a hill in Kentucky where it is presumably less
hazardous than on the Gulf coast, all things being equal, my monthly cost
with the reduction in insurance would be about 300 ukp or about 30% less;
not a long way off yours.

Any input from Australia or any other country?

Colin

Bloody hell Colin, I have never have tried to add up how much it all costs
to live in this house. I know that how we live, I can easily afford it.
However here goes, I will add up all the things that you have listed in your
email and if I have to get drunk after it I shall tell my wife it is your
fault.

Sky TV > £42.00 East Yorkshire Rates Plus Rubbish Collected > £108.00
Central Heating Servicing > £20.71 Yorkshire Water > £28.00
Gas,Elect,Land Phone & Broad Band > £115.00 House Ins > £265.00 Per Year.
TOTAL PER MONTH £347.80. we are now to old to pay BBB Licenc a year ago it
cost £15.00 per month approx.

Car Service, Petrol, Groceries and Leisure is one set of cost I am not going
to even think about.

That’s quite interesting.

Just worked it out that I in the USA pay on average $272 [177 pounds] per
month for electricity, house phone, cell phone service, tv cable service,
broad band and water [with trash collection]. We have no gas.

I haven’t added it up before but it is more than I expected.

So I got round to checking the costs associated with housing, such as
insurance, local taxes and housing association fees, turns out to be $427
per month – about half of which is insurance.

So cost of existing per month is [excluding food and drink, etc] is $699 =
456 pounds.

How does the above figures compare to where you live?

I pay a monthly DD. It varies month by month because it depends have many
calls that I have made that are not free. Such as the Dr’s some businesses
and various governments offices. All the people who have only mobiles I have
to pay for on my land phone. But if the folks have land lines. I get them
free I now and again have an hour talking to Hugh, that is free. The gas
,electricity and the broad band are fixed monthly payments that are
reviewed on an annually assessment on how much gas and electricity that we
used last year.
