Mike,
When we lived in Denmark we did without beetroot (they make sugar with it
all), turnips (they feed them to cattle and pigs), baked beans (they've
never heard of them) and bacon (other than the 95% fat strips left over from
the stuff they export) - and they get along quite well there without a vast
selection of confectionery and biscuits. We did OK.
