Hugh,
I like you used to miss the last bus home and end up walking on a 
regular basis from Fareham to Portsmouth 6 miles and occasionally from 
Chichester 20 miles and not really think much of it, Nowadays however I 
find that the comparatively short stroll 1.5 miles into Fremantle from 
South Fremantle requires a bit of mental loin girding, the car has 
really spoilt us, of course the former walks were generally the direct 
result of spending too long saying goodnight to the girlfriend of the 
moment which gave one a train of thought to accompany oneself home
