interesting article by paul krugman.
The Supreme Court left little doubt during last week's marathon arguments over President Barack Obama's health care overhaul that it has scant faith in Congress' ability to get anything done.

The views about Congress underlay questions from justices who appear to be on both sides of the argument over the constitutionality of the law's key provision, the individual insurance requirement, as well as whether the entire law should be thrown out if the mandate is struck down.

I agree, there is little doubt that the mandate for health insurance will be unconstitutional. it is likely the whole of obamacare will be scrapped.

now, don’t get me wrong, no one wants a US national health service more than I do, but how when and where obamacare is supposed to work has never been clearly explained to anyone yet, so there is not a lot of concern for it.

as you know, the back bone of the law was to have the present group of robbers give health insurance to all for a price yet to be determined. for them it is manna from heaven!

how one of the most avaricious groups in the USA [health insurers] would agree to provisions in the bill is beyond my comprehension! they appeared to agree to insure folks with known serious maladies that would inevitably cost the insurer millions.

incidentally, we do have a very good national health service for all over 65 called Medicare. its run by the government, everyone over 65 pays about $90/month and few complain. however, obamacare would be operated by private health insurers as mentioned above. receivers of Medicare have been mandated to pay, its actually deducted automatically from our monthly pensions – so there is no choice.

however, there was never any talk of gradually lowering the age of coverage to more of the population. I suppose that would have been too easy, it would have also been a serious blow to the health insurers who would not agree without a war.

can you believe that not enough people want affordable healthcare for all. I find it quite incomprehensible.

to many, ‘something for all’ smacks of the dreaded socialism.

healthcare overhaul is just about dead in the USA, so people will continue to lose their homes, become bankrupt and destitute trying to pay hospital and doctor bills.

many in the USA appear to think illness is a choice.
