Mike,

There is little in Malta to suggest it had been comprehensively destroyed in
WW2 - the island looks as if it had never been disturbed. I contrast this
with gaps left in Greenock after the bombing - some are still gaps, and
others have been filled with buildings that are ill-matched to their
surroundings.
