My Babcock experience was pre-CAD, so it was all hand done. Kincaid introduced CAD in the form of CADAM, a floppy disk run system that was soon replaced by CADAM run from the mainframe.  Kvaerner Govan ran a variant of that system, 1990s, then replaced it with a less user-friendly system that was apparently cheaper to run.  With none of these was it possible to do global changes. Nowadays, when a 3 month training course can gain one the right to design ships, things may be different.
