yo Hugh

what a terrible mistake – getting up at 0515...................!

I find one of the pleasures of retirement is waking up at 0730, dallying around the house a few mins, then saying, ‘fuck it, I think I’ll go back to bed!’

wrt sand shoes, sandals and the $180 sneaker frenzy. I predict that when these buyers are our age they will be crying into their begging bowls over their foolishness – their [and our governments] having frittered away their TRILLIONS until its all gone. nothing left for pensions, health care, heating and the other little trivialities of life!

ct

I believe ’retro’ refers to similar foot wear which was produced in the distant past, all of 20 years ago....................

Christmas Morning,

Colin,

I woke this morning and glanced sideways at the clock - 6.15. Will I get up? So I did, and passed an hour downstairs with some puzzles. Must be time for a coffee, I thought, and looked at a clock - 6.15. Had all the clocks stopped at 6.15? Was I in a time loop? A parallel universe? Simpler than that - the bedside clock is an hour fast, and I've been up since 5.15.

Sneakers. We called them sandshoes, and we got one pair a year, black brown or blue, at the start of the school holidays, from the Coop shoe shop along the road. There were no queues and no fights. We ran down the stairs (we were 4 flights up) three at a time and didn't stop running till we came at an obstacle. Small boys in sandshoes ran and leapt about everywhere. Were they retro something? God knows - what does that prefix denote anyway?

Hugh.
