    A two-year-old was shot and killed this afternoon in the 3330 block of Erato Street, the New Orleans Police Department reported.

    A 20-year-old man was injured in the shooting, which occurred around 4:45 p.m. He was hospitalized and was in surgery. 

    Police said the 20-year-old may have been the intended target of the shooter.

    The shooting was the second one involving a child this afternoon. About an hour earlier, a 9-year-old was shot in the 6900 block of Salem in eastern New Orleans. That victim was taken to a local hospital.

    Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas went to the scene of the Erato Street shooting. He said he had spoken to the toddler's family.
