You asked : "ok folks, how do they locate a tanker 5000 ft above the leak/s to collect oil?"  With some difficulty, I'd say, or a very long strong  flexible pipe.  Maybe, once it's all over, they might turn their attention to the fate of those who died, eg, are they down there amid the wreckage that hinders progress?

One thing I hate about all this is the money the lawyers will milk it for.
