hugh

you may be right about the jazz !- the population here is too laid back and it is too bloody hot and humid now. [quick, quick, pass the mint julep, lindy lou].

today's congressional hearing with tony as the star certainly didn't endear him or bp to anyone here.

he stalled, spoke unusually slowly and carefully as well as trotted out a number of memorized catch-all phrases. he absolutely refused to be drawn into any thought of who was at fault. names were not named.

he said no one has been fired. he is waiting for the findings of the investigation [eh?] - and this is after about 7 weeks and >50 people on the job! how effing long will it take?

he said this oil could be pouring out into august!

additionally, BP got no help from the ceo's of exxon, chevron. conoco philips and shell at tuesday's hearings - all said they would have done it differently.
however, Lawmakers did not seem convinced that the other four major oil companies - Exxon Mobil, Chevron, ConocoPhillips and Royal Dutch Shell - had better contingency plans than BP. BP is struggling to contain oil that has gushed from a ruptured well for nearly two months in the worst spill in U.S. history.

BP also has an abysmal safety record here - the worst by far than any other company.

I was not aware that BP had changed it's name so long ago to bee pee! did anyone ever say why?

Colin,

Clearly folks in New Orleans are better adjusted than those in Arizona -maybe it's the jazz. British Petroleum as a name ceased 14 years ago. The company name is now officially BP (bee pee).

In a rush to get out, pick up the No 2 grandson, and go up to Glasgow to see Spamalot.

Hugh.
