I live in Fremantle as I married an ozzy girl I met when the Resurgent went to oz like you say it was unusual to have eng from the south in BI I did my time in Portsmouth dockyard where we were all supposed to gravitate to the RN, but I wanted to see the far east and had seen enough navel vessels while doing my time, must admit though the dockyard training has stood me in good stead

thanks for the explanation. I am sure we were never together on dara. it was quite rare to have an engineer from the south coast on an eastern service vessel, so I would have remembered you.
you are probably correct about the skinny jeo - but his outstanding characteristic was not his cleverness but his lack of personal hygiene........................................!
are you back home, living in Portsmouth now? my eldest son was born there! I used to live in lee-on-solent.

Portsmouth was my home town Ayers is the family name maybe because I was an Elec masquerading as an eng is why you cant place me, think the skinny jeo was the academically clever one he was just hiding out from national service as were a lot of others at that time, I know when it stopped (NS) there was a dearth of juniors, ramsey was doing the 4~8 when I joined

regret don't recall any jeo on dara named frank - what was your home town and family name?
the oz guy you are talking about was bob SPOONER - he is not the oz ceo I'm talking about.
the academically clever jeo has be puzzled! what did he look like?
there was pete durham [not him]. a lad from northern ireland [not him]. there was a tall, skinny jeo from london - unforgettable because he was very loth to wash/shower.
as far as I know the 2eo never did a watch.

I only really have a clear recollection of ramsey as I bumped into him again in Aden I think he was then on one of the "C"s and I was on the Resurgent I went over to visit in the harbour aboard our 25 footer remember being met by the mate who thought it was a RN boarding party so if you where on board at the same time as me it must have been you who was lumbered with me on watch?
The only oz guy I can remember was bob schooner but I think he was 2nd on the Karanja the mists of time are great for mixing things up
do remember there was a very academically clever junior who was just there to get his sea time in

I knew most of this group - they were aboard when it sank, which I believe was in the spring of [April] 1961.
with ref to the period you were onboard 12/5/60 ~ 8/6/60. I believe I was onboard then, leaving in December 1960.
at that time, the ceo was a big guy from oz [don't recall his name], - Ramsey, Pete Jordan, Jackie Edgar, Pete Durham and maybe bhattarjee were onboard, the others you name must have come later.
do you recall who were the engineers 12/5/60 ~ 8/6/60 ? [26 days]
PS how do you remember the names of those onboard when she sank?
