We have received a number of enquiries by email and phone.

In fact there has been a huge glitch in HMRC computer system. Lots of
people
are being advised wrongly of changes in their tax code.

The errors seem to affect only occupational (company) schemes,
although we
do know of one case where someone is being taxed on his UK state
pension.

Unless you are on visa class 410 or similar (temporary resident) you
are not
liable to pay UK tax on your company pension. If HMRC are trying to
tax you,
contact the Australian Taxation Office - ATO. You need to fill out a
British
form FD2 and have it stamped by the ATO. Or you can write direct to the
British tax people.

I am told that HMRC do not have an email address and do not correspond
by
email. So it is best to use old fashioned "pigeon" post.

You may like to have a look at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/cnr/allow_nonres.htm
Australia does have a DTR agreement covering pensions, so you should
not be
taxed in UK on them.

James
