from what I have gathered, amanda was an innocent little blue eyed christian girl from seattle who went to italy to study.
reportedly, within a matter of weeks she was into drugs,alcohol and orgies with whom-so-ever - the only thing missing was the rock n roll. 
reportedly her english female house mate [leeds u] was not so adventuresome and complained about amanda’s licentious new life style.
she was found murdered there after.
amanda and italian boy friend [of 3 weeks] indicted and found guilty by an italian court. 
it is unlikely that an italian prosecutor [or any prosecutor] is going to proceed to trial without hard evidence – it would be pointless.
so he said/she said and supposition by italian authorities does not enter into it.

yes, it was much discussed here -- the arrest, trial, sentencing, etc. was big news and continues to be very newsworthy.

there is a “help amanda knox” website which I have not seen.
her supporters attitude is..........this is a young innocent american girl; our girls are nice, they don’t go around taking drugs, drinking, having orgies and murdering female house mates – she doesn’t even like pizza!.
additionally, the italian police are liars, the italian judicial system is no good, all italians are pizza eating figlio di una cagna  e bastardi.......................  
and as amanda herself insists – the italian court made a “huge mistake”.

Colin,

Not having followed the court case in the press (was it much discussed?), I am unable to hazard a guess about Amanda's guilt or innocence.  If it's her word against suppositions of the Italian police that are unsupported by hard evidence, I'd believe her on the grounds it might be me standing there next time.
