As I read it, the English cricket bat industry, ie, they who make cricket bats, is not under threat.  I quote, "In recent years all the willow has had to be exported to India for affordable bats to be made, apart from a small specialist and very residual industry here." It's the English supply of willow to India industry that's under threat - the "small specialist (whatever that means) and very residual industry" seems to be OK and still working. I reckon the English cricket bat industry stopped being that the day they handed it over to India.
