Colin,

Perhaps you could explain to your Limey audience why the gun amendment
should be on the credit card reform bill ?

credit cards - hand guns, get it?

Should we allow loaded, concealed guns in our national parks?

By Larry Marsh, Kansas City Star Midwest Voices columnist 2009

The US Congress passed an amendment to the credit card reform bill
that will allow people to carry loaded, concealed guns in our national
parks. Before you get yourself all upset, consider the trade-offs.

Staying overnight in one of our beautiful national parks can be scary.
After all you never know when a mountain lion or big bear might jump
out of the bush and attack you. One way to feel safe and secure in
your sleeping bag and tent is to place a loaded gun by your side as
you sleep.

Of course, it will be important to tell your children not to run
around after dark playing hide and seek in the bushes. You might also
warn that older gentleman in your life who has to get up every few
hours during the night to use the latrine.

But wait, before you get upset about losing a loved one, consider the
extra freedom you get from having a loaded gun by your side. After all
our country was founded on freedom. We need to protect our freedoms
every chance we get.

In particular, with a loaded gun by your side you will be free to
leave food unsecured at your campsite. No need to worry about
attracting bears and other predators. If one shows up you can always
just shoot it.

More importantly, consider the essential philosophical point here. If
you are a true American you should be willing to make sacrifices for
freedom, just as our forefathers have done. When you think about the
sacrifices they have made, then surely losing a loved one or two isn't
all that bad.
