no, hugh

I ain't never heard of the degeneres american slang words...................................................n she hadn't a clue about hugh's.

hugh must be making a fortune here with HOUSE...........when "home improvements" ended 10 years ago, tim was getting $2,000,000 an EPISODE, and his wife wanted the same - but didn't get it; the show closed.

agree about pronunciation - leaves a lot to be desired.

rather odd that an amateur football club committee would use a latin phrase to suspend a player - a bit pretentious?

Colin,

It was an unfair contest - the American slang words may well have been commonly used on a certain street in one city, but on the other hand they were probably made up. Also, only an idiot would have failed to get the British ones. Also also, Degeneres' pronunciation left a lot to be desired, a common fault nowadays with media persons. The other day I overheard a chap in one of those "searching for a house" TV programmes, where people with more money than sense think we should be interested in their search for "propitee" (my wife is, and I am not). This chap was rambling on about a "coydoe". It took me a while, but eventually I got it - a corridor (I think). This morning, while searching for the 9.00 am news on the radio, a lady said "foe foe" re some matter. Again, after a while, realisation dawned - " for four". Or, could it have been Forfar?

Yours in sorrow,

Hugh.

PS The above salutation reminds me of my pal, Alex. When young he had played football for a local amateur team and, as sometimes happens in the stress of the game, he had clogged one of the opposition quire severely. He was hauled up before the committee, and eventually he got a letter telling him he was suspended sin die. The letter was signed "Yours in sport".
