FLOOD WARNING FOR THE BURDEKIN RIVER

Issued at 4:13 PM on Thursday the 5th of February 2009
by the Bureau of Meteorology, Brisbane.

Major flooding has peaked in the upper Burdekin River at Sellheim and  
moderate
flood levels have peaked at Burdekin Falls Dam. Moderate flooding will  
continue
downstream along the lower Burdekin River to Inkerman Bridge during  
tonight and
Friday.

Major flood levels in the Upper Burdekin River at Sellheim peaked at  
20.5 metres
at 7pm Tuesday. The river level at 8-15am was 16.47 metres and  
falling, which
was about 3 metres over the Macrossan Bridge.

At 3pm, the Burdekin Falls Dam was 6.66 metres and steady at its peak.

In the lower Burdekin River downstream of the Burdekin Dam, moderate  
flood
levels are rising very slowly downstream from Dalbeg to Inkerman Bridge.

At 4pm, the Burdekin River at Inkerman Bridge gauge was about 11.3  
metres and
rising very slowly. It is expected to peak at about 11.5 metres  
Thursday night
(tonight) causing only moderate flooding. The river level at Inkerman  
Bridge
will commence to fall very slowly during Friday.
