[BITList] Petition to Number 10

BMD - Births, Marriages and Deaths.

Dear listers,

I post this for your interest and action..

There is a petition on the Number10 website for the Prime Minister -  
asking
that 'open access' be allowed for the bmd's for England & Wales from
1837-1908.  The reasoning being that as they are over 100 years old, the
'usual rules' no longer apply, so one could view the details before  
opting
to buy. (Think of how many wrong certs people have ordered!)

It's a brilliantly simple idea that probably won't happen sadly, but  
lots of
signatures would point up the interest;-)

You have to be a UK resident or ex-pat to sign the petition, but could  
you
pass this on to others if you are not eligible.
