Hugh /. As a non engineer of any sort, but very interested in the general subject, can you or any one else tell me as to why all the electrics and control position was placed at the foot of this enormous dam? Surely these facilties could have been placed in a safer position ashore or on top of the dam. I know that that too could be dangerous and the Moene & Eder Dams were destryoed from the top by Barnes Wallace, bomb but that was a deliberate act during the war and extremely unlikely to be repeated in peacetime. Must have been frightening to work at the base of a concrete wall holding back so much water under pressure. The accident may well have happened but the loss of life would not. I believe that there is such a thing as remote control! Being an ex navigator I'm most likely saying something that is a lot of rubbish so clue me in please. Salaams Ron

From an ex-colleague in Canada. It's beyond words.
