Mike,

Jokes lose much in the translation. My wife (Hugh, is that supposed to be
funny? Do they get paid for that?) always has to have Monty Python
translated for her. However, here goes. In demotic Scots, "tartan" is
pronounced "tar'an", the glo'al stop having been brought north by Cockney
immigrants fleeing association with Eastenders. And "tart" can often be
said as "tar' ", ie, a glo'al stop at the end (hard to achieve by non
natives). So, that's another good joke spoiled for ever.

Hugh.
