Dave, thanks for the pointer to bait - I can't think why I didn't make the connection. John/Dave - I saw High Society in which Grace Kelly described a yacht as "yar". I'd guess "yare" is a archaic Scots legal term. I'll look for an archaic Scots lawyer. Hugh.
