Colin,

Good work on the translation.  Dumfoonert is actually a dialect version of dumbfounded.  I didn't know a whitrick was a rat, so there you are - we use it when (often angrily) referring to any small (must be small) animal, often including a child, that is determined to be hard to get hold of in a domestic emergency due to its speed and agility - much as a mouse or a rat might be.
