[BITList] Deja vu

On BBC TV this evening there was a fascinating programme on Thomas Hardy.  My wife and daughter, not usually fans of that sort of programme, watched it till the end.  Listening to how Hardy struggled to have his books published as he wrote them, instead of being trimmed to suit what the moderators - sorry, editors - thought was proper, I started to have deja vu.  When it came to the reaction to Jude The Obscure - the sometimes vicious attacks made on him by critics and others on the grounds of "good taste", causing him to vow never to write another book (a vow he kept) - my sense of deja vu increased. Plus ca change ....
