Hugh ,
            As you joined BI in 1956 the George Cruikshanks in your 
memory woulld be the engineering Super           in Calcutta
He was a dogmatic  so and so.
The story goind round was that he had a big wooden desk in his office 
with five  indents along the front .
The shallowest was labelleled Chiefs and the deepest Fifths .

The only time I thumped his desk was long distance from Colombo .
( and I won .)
