The bikini was hanging up to dry in a recess by the lady's cabin - she was a passenger, and not in her cabin. A small group, including the 3rd Mate and I, were searching for her for some reason that must have made sense at the time. She was having a chat with a cadet in a cabin with the door wide open. At this rather flat ending to the expedition, all dispersed and turned in for the night. Next morning Jock Dewar approached us in the messroom at breakfast. He was neither up nor down - asked us if we would apologise to the young lady.  We agreed that such would be the correct thing to do. She was brought in, and we, regardless of whether or not we understood or recalled why, apologised. That ended the affair, all bar one item.

I now recall we were in the Indian Ocean,  not alongside, and Jock's rather low key attitude had to do with the fact that, next morning, the CO had come down into the ER on my watch and threatened me over some aspect of the previous evening's events. I chased the idiot. Anything that came of it didn't reach my ears.
