 What does it mean for you? The United Kingdom’s State Pensioners?





1. If you’re a pensioner living in the UK, one of the 10.5, million, approximately, that do, you will receive the annual indexed linked increase, you will also receive government benefits to help those needing further help to survive. 

However there will still be thousands that will need help from those volunteer groups of caring people that do their best for the homeless, those that suffer from health, both physical and mental, problems the Government cannot handle. We will still have the queues at the food banks, we will still have those that have little hope of a “happy and prosperous new year”.

You receive one of the lowest Pensions in Europe. You will still foot the bill for the £billions being spent on the bureaucratic costs of Brexit, you will still be a target by the government. You will still see the £13 billion being spent on overseas aid. (plus other specific projects).

So how will your New Year be?

2. If you’re one of the 640,000 UK pensioners living overseas in the EU states, the USA and a few other countries, you too will receive the annual indexed linked increase to your pension in line with the UK living pensioners. You may receive some benefits from the government. You also will receive one of the lowest Pensions in Europe. You will still foot the bill for the £billions being spent on the bureaucratic costs of Brexit, you will still be a target by the government. You will still see the £13 billion being spent on overseas aid. (plus other specific projects).

So how will your New Year be?

3. IF YOU’RE ONE OF THE 540,000 PENSIONERS LIVING OVERSEAS IN OTHER COUNTRIES, other  than the unfrozen ones referred to in 2) above, FROM AFGHANISTAN TO ZIMBABWE, YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE THE ANNUAL INDEXED LINKED INCREASE TO YOUR PENSION.  You never have done since moving to, or becoming a pensioner, in one of those 120 countries!  

How long have you been frozen? 1 year or 30 years?



If you reached State Pension age before 6 April 2016 the basic pension is  £122.30.   

If you reached State Pension age after 6 April 2016 the full new State Pension is £159.55 per week.  A big difference! £37.25. around  23%!

Strange how the governments equality, fairness and justice policy does not apply to pensioners.



AN APPEAL TO ALL PENSIONERS AND PENSIONER GROUPS WORLD WIDE

If you are a pensioner referred to in 1) and 2) please spare a thought for those referred to in 3)..

They all paid the same NIS contribution rates as you did. How would you feel if you were still on the same pension you were on the day you became a pensioner?

The state pension was introduced to help workers on retirement to have a minimum income to avoid poverty.  By failing to uprate those 540,000 the government is failing to maintain that safeguard.

Every year those pensioners are pushed closer to poverty, some can't afford medical treatment, they can't afford to return to the UK. 

[Financial depravation is one of the causation factors, that lead to depression, that can lead to suicide. (in the last 15 months I have been emailed regarding 3 suicides in Thailand, I cannot verify details ).]

Please support these “frozen” pensioners. Press your MP to support the uprating of all UK pensioners to the current rates. Ask your group, be it Age UK, National Pensioners Convention, your unions retired members section etc to become more active in supporting the 540,000 pensioners. (Spread over 3 years, oldest first will annually reduce the numbers of pensioners affected).  Partial uprating will not do that. It just adds a further level of discrimination.
