John, You will, of course, have the contents removed onto a disk. When my HD gave up the ghost a few years ago, a local shop did the job for me. I recovered all of the stuff I'd put on it. The rest (Windows, etc) was still on disks, etc, and easily reloaded onto the other HD. Hugh.
