On holding back information .... my father joined the Argyll & Southern Highlanders in 1925. Aged 25 his record says, but he was aged 17 years and 1 month. He was a joiner, it says - not at 17 he wasn't. In 1929, serving in Jamaica, he and two others were court-martialled for mutiny and given 5 years penal servitude The news of the court martial wasn't released until 9 months after it - newspapers all over the world demanded to know why. The sentence was reduced to 2 years after a lot of shouting in parliament.  The court martial records seem unobtainable.
