Land, sea, night no obstacles for Sky Duck tours in Yokohama

The service on Sky Duck, a passenger vehicle that can operate like a boat, started on April 29, and is the first such nighttime operation in Japan. Passengers boarding the Sky Duck at Nippon Maru Memorial Park in Yokohama’s Nishi Ward. After a trip on land, Sky Duck drove into the bay and cruised in the water, giving passengers a view of illuminated scenery, including the Cosmo Clock 21, a giant Ferris wheel, and the Yokohama Landmark Tower. The entire trip lasted 30 to 40 minutes. “Customers can enjoy the picturesque night view of Yokohama both from land and sea,” said Tetsufumi Tomita, senior managing director of the urban tourism design department of Sky Duck’s operator, Hinomaru Jidousya Kougyou Co. Sky Duck operations started in October 2016, but only during the daytime. Since March this year, drivers have been trained to control the vehicles at night, and the tourism company judged that it can secure the safety of the vehicles for nighttime operations. The trip is available from Friday to Sunday as well as national holidays, starting at 6:30 p.m. The fare for adults is 3,500 yen ($31.00), and 1,700 yen for children from the ages of 4 to 12.
