Mike,

Education standards do vary. In early June, 1941, when I was just days short of 8, my younger brother and I were evacuated to Kilbarchan, a biggish village about 12 miles away. We attended the local primary school until my brother got chickenpox and was taken to hospital - me with him The people we stayed with had intended taking us on holiday wth them, but my brother got chickenpox and he and I went to hospital. Mother picked us up and we went home. My main memory of the school is that we had covered it all ages before, at Chapelton Primary in Port Glasgow. And our grandaughter Sarah attended a Primary School in Greenock, next door to us, from first entry up to the day she moved with her family to a High School in Port Glasgow. For the first year in High School she mostly sat alone in a separate room, having covered it all before in Greenock.

Hugh.
