That is pure bovine excreta.

The author has never been anywhere the DHR! Darjeeling is the terminus of the DHR.

To get to Darjeeling the train goes through Ghoom - the highest part of the DHR. From Ghoom it is downhill all the way into Darjeeling.

But worth the read anyway.
