There's a discussion going on in the media here about a recent film version of Lewis Grassic Gibbon's Sunset Song, in particular about the Doric accent as produced in the film.  One reviewer said of Agyness Deyn, who played Chris, that her accent was off, but he understood every word.  Not so when she reverted off screen to her Southern English accent, when he couldn't get a word she was saying.  Northern accents from northern speakers.
