When I was her age, at Port Glasgow High School, for music we got singing once a week - In Sheltered Vale, the Mill Stream, etc -accompanied by Miss Lily Irvine on piano. Over the past few years things changed, and now we have a good many like Miss Bromiley, though not all that many half as good.  In my area, Inverclyde Schools Wind Orchestra, the successors to my generation, win platinum at UK National competitions, but there are as good and  better individual musicians in some of the less successful bands. There's a lot going on out there, and it comes as a shock when some wee lassie stands up with an instrument as big as herself and lets go.
