Being sensible, we live south of the Clyde, hence south of Highland line, which makes us Sassenachs, but even so ....

Some years ago there were 20 foot drifts north of the Clyde.  A man trapped in his car managed to make a hole up to daylight to let air in and a branch with a rag on it out.  He found a cold fish and chips in the snow around him and ate it slowly.  Being a salesman for ladies' stockings, he had a plentiful supply of insulating material - he swathed himself in layers of the stockings.  Some, not so fortunate, died.  It's as well not to be dazzled by lovely scenery.
