Rather comic book text. Mechanics? Flights of stairs?

My pal Joe and I, 18-19 year old apprentices in Kincaids, Greenock, assembled diesel (and one or two steam) crankshafts standing vertically.  The foreman attended during the final lining up of webs - all the rest was done by we two with the help of Jimmy Cram the slinger and the craneman.
