MNOPF completes member forums in run-up to buy-out

The Merchant Navy Officers’ Pension Fund has completed a series of forums to engage with scheme members before a planned buy-out later this year.

A £1.3bn buy-out of the old section of the scheme with Rothesay Life and Legal and General will be implemented in July.

This is believed to be the first time member forums have been offered to pension scheme members in the run-up to a buy-out.

MNOPF trustee chair Peter McEwen said the forums received a positive response, providing members with the comfort that “little will change” in practical terms.

“Effective member communications are a key component of a successful buy-out, and in travelling around the UK to meet our members face-to-face, we have gone the extra mile to ensure they not only understand the plans for buy-out, but are fully on board with the changes.”

The forums were held in 10 cities across the UK and were attended by around 1,000 members.
