That kind of riveting - on the ship's bottom - was among the most difficult. My grandfather and his two brothers did it. They used to sneak into the yard on a Sunday and get the job set up to save time - they were on piece work. At low tide it was always possible to wade round the end of the boundary fence - as children we did it often in search of treasure trove.
