"Mike who?", they asked, when we asked, so we jist goat on wi' it withoot 'im. No accent problems whatever in Liverpool - I understand there are 4 Scouse accents, but I couldn't distinguish one from another.  As was the case when in Newcastle, we felt quite at home.  Possibly echoes of the time, post the Roman occupation, when much of the land from the Clyde south to damn near the Midlands was a separate country.
