I don't know the make of engine, so I can only talk of what I know. When I was with Kincaid for my second spell, 1980 to about 1990, a defect like the one described would have been the subject of a service letter from MAN-B&W to the effect that replacement of the parts in all engines of the type was mandatory. No nonsense about keeping an eye on things. Hugh.
