Democracy may not be good at a lot of things. But one thing it is supposed to be good at is responding to problems that affect broad majorities. 

In this case it appears many who voted for these wide ranging powers affecting very broad majorities, had little idea what it was all about – but are now complaining about the very thing they voted for, because they think this is the best way they will be re-elected AND THAT’S ALL THAT MATTERS TO THEM.

Republicans want Snowdon prosecuted, the more liberal minded see him as a whistle blower revealing abuse of power - for which both parties voted for. 

Hypocrisy is smothering democracy.
