Sir George Everest was part of the Great Survey of India.

They started at the bottom of India and worked their way up. They used triangulation as the method of creating the maps of India.

Are you aware that if you go into the Survey Of India Office and mentioned his name, they would have corrected your pronunciation of the name.

It is pronounced "Eve Rest" not "Ever Est".
